About the Estate

Bonterra has been one of California's most committed organic and biodynamic producers since its founding in 1987 — long before sustainability became a marketing category. Farming estate vineyards in Mendocino and the Pine Mountain foothills, the wines are honest, food-friendly, and priced accessibly for certified organic production. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc are the most consistent expressions. A genuine early adopter of regenerative viticulture that hasn't lost sight of making good, drinkable wine.

Kyle Altomare grew up in Sonoma County and spent years working harvests across California and Spain before joining Gloria Ferrer in 2012. He became Head Winemaker in 2016, bringing a meticulous approach to traditional method sparkling wine rooted in extended lees aging, precise blending, and an almost obsessive attention to the character of individual estate blocks.
