Captain Mike Long's single-boat operation off Bodega Head — owner-piloted whale charters year-round.

Visit WebsiteThe 2-3 hour private whale charter aboard the 28' Miss Vic — Captain Mike Long at the helm, gray whales in March, humpbacks in summer, blue whales in late summer, and the deepest local-knowledge narration of any whale charter on the Sonoma Coast.
Bodega Bay Whale Watching is Captain Mike Long's single-boat operation aboard the 28' Miss Vic — the kind of small-scale charter where the owner pilots every trip himself, knows the bay's whale-spotting patterns from years of personal experience, and runs the operation as a one-man wheelhouse rather than a fleet brand. The boat is the Osprey Pilothouse 28' Long Cabin, USCG-approved and licensed, with electronics including VHF, radar, and depth-finder. The 64-square-foot aft deck gives passengers space to move around, the heated cabin and private restroom make winter trips comfortable, and the cruising speed of 28 knots gets the boat to the best whale sites quickly.
The seasonal whale calendar is the editorial story: gray whales and orcas migrate through Bodega Bay December through May (the gray-whale window peaks in March), humpbacks feed offshore May through November, and blue whales — the largest animals on Earth — visit between July and October. Bodega Bay has become a year-round feeding ground because the cold-water upwelling along the Sonoma Coast concentrates krill and forage fish in dense bands the whales return to. The trip is a private charter for up to six passengers at $600, two to three hours in duration, with Captain Mike personally pointing out the whales, dolphins, sea lions, harbor seals, and the dense seabird population the marine sanctuary attracts. Single-boat operator. Owner-piloted. The most personal whale-watching charter on the California coast.

Vicki Long co-owns Bodega Bay Whale Watching with her husband, Captain Mike, and manages the shore side of the single-boat operation — handling the bookings and logistics that keep the Miss Vic running. Guests planning a charter are usually in touch with Vicki before they ever step aboard.
