Giuseppe and Pietro Simi founded the winery in 1876 and began making wine in their stone Healdsburg cellar in 1890; the same building has made wine ever since. Simi is also a landmark women-in-wine lineage, with female head winemakers from Mary Ann Graff in 1973 through Zelma Long.

Simi Winery was founded in 1876 by Italian immigrants Giuseppe and Pietro Simi and is one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in Sonoma County. The Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is the foundation of the portfolio — honest, food-friendly, and consistent across vintages. Under WarRoom Cellars' Director of Winemaking Nicole Walsh, the brand carries forward a storied lineage of women winemakers stretching back through Zelma Long to founder-era matriarch Isabelle Simi. A historic anchor of the appellation with genuine longevity behind it.

Landslide Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley — The acclaimed single-vineyard flagship from a volcanic-landslide site (92 points).

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon — The classic structured Cabernet that built Simi's reputation.

Sonoma County Merlot — A supple, dark-fruited red.

Russian River Valley Chardonnay — A bright, cool-climate white from the Goldfields Vineyard.

Sauvignon Blanc — A crisp, aromatic white from one of California's oldest wineries (est. 1876).

Giuseppe and Pietro Simi founded the winery in 1876 and began making wine in their stone cellar on Healdsburg Avenue in 1890 — production that has continued in that same building for well over a century. The Simi story is also one of the great women-in-wine lineages in California: Isabelle Simi Haigh ran the business from age eighteen through most of the twentieth century, and Simi has employed a continuous succession of female head winemakers from Mary Ann Graff in 1973 through Zelma Long to today. Constellation Brands closed the public tasting room in February 2023 to focus on retail; the brand changed hands to The Wine Group in 2025 and then to WarRoom Cellars later that year, with a planned relaunch underway. As of this writing the Healdsburg grounds are not open for walk-in hospitality — the best way to taste current releases is through retail distribution.

Nicole Walsh oversees winemaking at Simi as Director of Winemaking for WarRoom Cellars, which acquired the historic brand in late 2025 — continuing a remarkable lineage of women at its helm. Simi was founded in 1876 by Tuscan immigrant brothers Giuseppe and Pietro Simi and moved to Healdsburg in 1881; Isabelle Simi famously ran it for some sixty years, steering it through Prohibition, and in 1979 Zelma Long became one of the first women to lead a major California winery here, bringing Simi national acclaim. Walsh — known for her work alongside Randall Grahm at Bonny Doon and for her own Ser Winery — now carries that legacy forward, with the label long associated with Alexander Valley Bordeaux varieties and Russian River Valley Chardonnay.

When Tuscan immigrant brothers Giuseppe and Pietro Simi — who founded the winery in 1876 — both died of influenza in 1904, Giuseppe’s 18-year-old daughter Isabelle took the reins. She ran Simi for the next sixty-six years, an extraordinary tenure for a woman of her era. She reinforced the cellars before the 1906 earthquake, carried the winery through Prohibition by selling sacramental wine, and in 1934 opened Healdsburg’s first tasting room from a giant redwood cask. Her foresight and grit kept Simi among California’s few continuously operating nineteenth-century wineries — and made her an enduring symbol of women’s leadership in wine.
