Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak occupies the ridgeline where Sonoma and Mendocino counties meet — one of the highest elevation wine appellations in California, with vineyards planted between 1,600 and 2,700 feet on ancient volcanic soils. The AVA is small, remote, and largely unknown outside serious wine circles, producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends of extraordinary structural density and longevity.
The mountain climate is severe: summer temperatures can swing 50 degrees or more between midday heat and overnight cool, creating growing conditions of unusual intensity. The volcanic and rocky soils drain quickly and stress the vines, concentrating sugars and flavors into small, thick-skinned berries. The resulting wines are not soft or approachable in youth — they require time and patience, and they reward both.
