Here the Mayacamas close in, the valley narrows, and the noise simply stops — the signal drops, deer cross the road at dusk, and the wineries are among the oldest in Sonoma. Kenwood is a single block of village wrapped in ranch land and vine: taste at Kunde or St. Francis, then retreat behind olive trees to an Italianate villa and its spa. Come on day three of a longer trip, when what you want most is the silence.
