The Healdsburg Farmers' Market is one of the oldest certified markets in California, and it now has a home of its own: the Foley Family Community Pavilion on North Street, a short walk from the Plaza. The Saturday market runs 8:30am to noon from April to December, and a Tuesday market runs 9am to 1pm from May through September. Both are run by the nonprofit Healdsburg Certified Farmers' Market.

The bench is deep. Farms from the surrounding valleys bring produce and flowers, and alongside them come farmstead cheeses, local honey and olive oil, bread, wild fish, pasture-raised meat and eggs: a fair portrait of what Healdsburg cooks with. It is the town's own pantry, and it rewards whoever gets there first.

Arrive early, walk the aisles before the tasting rooms open, and leave with breakfast in hand. On a Saturday in Healdsburg there is no better way to start.

From a Prune Shed to a Pavilion

History

The market began in 1978, started by a small group of local growers that included Paul Bernier. Its first season was spent in a former prune-drying shed at Haydon and East streets, and over the years it moved from one site to another around town.

Its permanent home is the Cerri Building on North Street, a produce warehouse from the early 1920s that the city saved from demolition and restored as the Foley Family Community Pavilion.
