A Friday-morning market is the right way to begin a Sonoma weekend. Stock a picnic for the afternoon, meet the people who grow the valley's food, then walk to the Plaza as the tasting rooms open. Locals treat it as the week's real shop, so it carries none of the staging of a tourist market.
It also shows the valley's farming roots, still thriving between the vineyards: the same families have been selling here for decades, alongside newer growers taking up the work.

Visit organizer site →The Friday market took root in 1985, and two years later Hilda Swartz was hired to manage it, beginning a tenure that carried it through decades of Friday mornings.
Its home holds Sonoma's railroad past. Depot Park is named for the station built around 1880, the stop for trains serving the town. Fire destroyed the old depot in January 1976. The city and the Sonoma Valley Historical Society rebuilt it, and it reopened in 1979 as the Depot Park Museum, which still stands at the edge of the park beside the market stalls.
