Flamingo Resort & Spa is the great mid-century landmark of Sonoma County: a 170-room resort that opened in 1957 as the centerpiece of developer Hugh Codding's post-war Santa Rosa, designed by architect Homer A. Rissman around a wheel-and-spoke plan of guestroom wings radiating from a central S-shaped pool courtyard. In its early years it drew Hollywood visitors and became the city's social hub; like many properties of its era, it dimmed in later decades before a major restoration, announced in 2019 and completed in 2021, modernized building systems, guest rooms, and public spaces while preserving the resort's original profile, lighting, and mid-century character. That same year the Flamingo was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognized both for its role in Santa Rosa's post-war growth and for its mid-century modern architecture.
Today the Flamingo operates as part of Hilton's Tapestry Collection on a lush, redwood-shaded 10-acre site, with the famous pool still the heart of the property and the gathering place for summer DJ afternoons and unhurried poolside lounging. The 170 guestrooms pair period-inspired design with floor-to-ceiling windows and thoroughly contemporary comforts, entry screens framing the bed toward the garden and pool. The Lazeaway Club, the poolside restaurant, serves pan-Pacific cuisine drawing on flavors from Mexico to Thailand, while the on-site spa, expansive fitness center, and group meeting spaces round out a true full-service resort. Its central east-Santa Rosa location puts guests within easy reach of the Russian River Valley, Healdsburg, and Sonoma Valley.
