Healdsburg's garden restaurant now serves casual suppers and books private parties and community evenings, with the art of Studio Barndiva hung around the gallery dining room. Chef Erik Anderson works with produce from the Hales family farm in Philo and Sonoma County growers: goat cheese croquettes, roasted Mt Lassen trout, the Barndiva Burger. Open Thursday through Monday evenings.

Barndiva sits a half-block off Healdsburg Plaza in a high-ceilinged, barn-like building framed by wisteria-canopied gardens, about half an acre in the center of town spread across two properties. Jil and Geoff Hales, with Lukka Feldman, opened it in 2004 as a place where food, art and community would share one roof, and the family also keeps a farm in Philo, where dry-farmed apples, figs and chestnuts have grown on a ridge above the Pacific for some three decades. Michelin recognized the kitchen with a star for three consecutive years, and people still drive up for it. In January 2024 the family set aside the multicourse format and returned to that founding idea, turning toward casual suppers, gatherings and private events, with Studio Barndiva, the neighboring gallery, now part of the dining room.

Erik Anderson writes the menus at Barndiva in Healdsburg. His career runs through Noma, Auriga, The French Laundry and The Catbird Seat in Nashville, where he was a founding co-chef, before Coi in San Francisco. He came to Barndiva from Truss at Four Seasons Napa Valley.

Jil Hales shapes the look and spirit of Barndiva, the Healdsburg restaurant she opened in 2004 with Geoff Hales and Lukka Feldman. She directs its design and aesthetic and produces eat the view, the restaurant's blog, while the kitchen draws on the food sheds of Sonoma and Mendocino counties.
