Mark and Terri Stark's Healdsburg tapas bar does most of its business outdoors, across a flagstone patio, a heated deck and an outdoor bar behind the house. Small plates arrive as they are ready: patatas bravas, jamón ibérico sliced to order, eggplant chips with truffle honey, crab-stuffed piquillo peppers. Paella cooks over wood on weekends. Sangria comes by the pitcher.

Bravas Bar de Tapas brings the rhythm of Spain's tapas bars to a classic 1920s bungalow a few blocks off Healdsburg Plaza. Mark and Terri Stark opened it in November 2012, and it remains part of their family of Sonoma County restaurants. The room is small and usually full, and much of the life of the place happens outdoors, behind the house. Michelin awarded it a Bib Gourmand in 2019, Travel + Leisure singled out its tapas in 2015, and USA Today has listed it among the country's top Spanish restaurants. Michelin has recognized the kitchen, and people do drive up to Healdsburg for it, yet the evening keeps the easy pace of a neighborhood bar, where a few plates and a drink can stretch into a whole night.

Terri Stark co-owns Bravas Bar de Tapas with chef Mark Stark, part of their Stark Reality group of Sonoma County restaurants. She runs front-of-house operations across the group and creates the interior design for each restaurant. She studied leisure services, with a hospitality focus, at the University of Oregon, and the Starks were 2013 James Beard semifinalists for Outstanding Restaurateur.
