Chef-owner Nick Ronan, who led San Francisco kitchens for a decade, runs this Petaluma bistro strictly by the French book: tableside steak tartare, onion soup gratinée, beef bourguignon, Wagyu steak frites with béarnaise and a pork chop au miel. About fifty wines, mostly French. A baby grand sits in the room; dinner Tuesday through Sunday, walk-ins welcome at the bar.

Brigitte Bistro opened on April 2, 2024 at 841 Petaluma Boulevard North, in the former Wishbone and 3 Cooks Cafe space, and is named for chef-owner Nick Ronan's mother, Brigitte. Ronan grew up between Paris and the south of France and spent a decade leading San Francisco kitchens, including Pawn Shop, Bisou and Beso, before stepping away and finding a new start in Petaluma. The bistro carries that lineage with unusual directness: a classical French room with warm wood, a small bar, a chef's counter over the open kitchen and a baby grand piano that guests sometimes play. Ronan has said he is not chasing stars; he wanted a neighborhood place, and in its first years it has found its following among Petaluma regulars.

Nick Ronan cooked in high-end European restaurants before co-founding several San Francisco restaurants, among them Pawn Shop, which guests entered through a mock pawn shop, and leading kitchens at Bisou and Beso for a decade. At Brigitte Bistro he holds to the French classics, with a dining room team that includes servers who worked with him before.
