Wine Focus
Sonoma County focused with selections from beyond; thoughtful cocktail program. Adjacent Drakes Fireside Lounge for casual fare.

Drakes Sonoma Coast is the restaurant of The Lodge at Bodega Bay, at 103 Highway 1, where the dining room and outdoor seating look out over Bodega Bay to the Pacific. It is open to the public, not only to hotel guests, and its casual room gathers around a large stone fireplace. Executive chef Brendalee Reiplinger, who led the kitchen from 2019 to 2021, returned in September 2024 and oversees Drakes, the adjoining Drakes Fireside Lounge and the Lodge's banquets. Her cooking is coastal California, built on seasonal, regionally sourced ingredients from the working coast outside the windows and the farms inland, and the menus change with what the season provides.

Breakfast is served daily from 7:30 in the morning and dinner each evening, with a longer midday service on weekends, and the morning light over the bay makes breakfast an underrated choice. At dinner the menu is seafood-forward and simply prepared, with dishes such as seared scallops and crab cakes alongside tomatoes in season and cheese boards for the table. The wine program favors small local vineyards, with Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at its center, and the bar adds local craft beer, signature cocktails and a daily happy hour. The patio is the seat to ask for, oriented toward the ocean, with a fire pit when the fog rolls in. For something lighter, the Fireside Lounge serves a casual menu beside the hearth.
