Argot is the small-lot Sonoma Mountain specialist founded by self-taught winemaker Justin Harmon, who learned under 100-point Cabernet maker Russell Bevan before launching his label in 2007 with a single ton of Syrah. About 3,000 cases a year of Pinot, Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet, and Sauvignon Blanc — allocation only.

Argot is the small-lot Sonoma Mountain specialist founded by Justin Harmon, a self-taught winemaker who came to wine from a Chicago chemical-engineering background and worked his way into the cellar through three consecutive Sonoma harvest internships — the third under 100-point Cabernet specialist Russell Bevan, who eventually told him to start his own label. The first Argot vintage was a single ton of Syrah in 2007. Today the program runs to about 3,000 cases a year across Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc, with individual cuvees as small as 75 cases. The wines have accumulated over 100 90+ scores, Wine Spectator featured Harmon's Sonoma Mountain Syrah program in October 2025, and Purely Domestic Wine Report named Argot Winery of the Year in 2023. Allocation only.
Bastard Tongue Pinot Noir, Sonoma County — The wine Argot is best known for; rich and complex with berry, spice and a long finish.
Le Rayon Vert Chardonnay — Smooth and bright with citrus and impressive depth, from old Sonoma Mountain vines.
Indigo Syrah — A full-bodied, Cornas/Hermitage-styled cool-climate Syrah with berry and coffee notes.
Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville — From a historic Oakville block, dark berries, chocolate and oak in a rich, balanced frame.
Sauvignon Blanc, Bennett Valley — Elegant and aromatic, with papaya, orange blossom and lemongrass.
Founded in 2007 by Justin Harmon and his wife and partner Beth Thompson, Argot makes small-lot, critically acclaimed wines from Sonoma Mountain, Bennett Valley and the Petaluma Gap, plus prized Napa sites — over a hundred 90+ ratings and a Winery of the Year nod.
Justin Harmon founded Argot in 2007 after three harvest seasons cutting his teeth in Sonoma, including a formative stint with 100-point Cabernet specialist Russell Bevan — who eventually told him to start his own label. Argot is now known for mountainside Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Cabernet sourced from both sides of the Mayacamas. The Sonoma Mountain vineyards form the core of the program — high-elevation fruit producing wines of tension and precision. Among Argot's most celebrated bottlings are the Le Rayon Vert Chardonnay (from Steiner and Richard Dinner Vineyards on Sonoma Mountain) and Indigo Syrah (from a 1,100-foot north-facing hillside site). Production is tiny — as few as 75 to 130 cases per cuvee. Argot doesn't operate a public tasting room; allocations come through the mailing list. Named Winery of the Year by the Purely Domestic Wine Report.

A self-taught Chicago-raised chemical engineer who fell into wine in his late 20s and never looked back. He began home experiments in his parents' basement using flash-frozen Napa grapes shipped by rail, then took a single day of harvest work in California in 2005 as his first commercial exposure. Two consecutive Sonoma harvest internships followed in 2006 and 2007 — the second under 100-point Cabernet specialist Russell Bevan, who ultimately encouraged him to start his own label. With a single ton of Syrah he made his first Argot vintage in 2007. Working at Vinify, the custom-crush facility in Sonoma, he gradually added varietals — Chardonnay in 2008, then Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc — while developing relationships with the Sonoma Mountain vineyards that anchor his program. His approach is instinct-driven, drawing inspiration from Henri Jayer: native fermentation, extended French oak aging, minimal intervention, ruthless blending. Argot now produces about 3,000 cases a year across five varietals, with individual cuvees as small as 75 cases. Over 100 90+ point scores. Named Winery of the Year by Purely Domestic Wine Report in 2023. Featured in Wine Spectator in October 2025 for his work with Sonoma Mountain Syrah.

Beth Harmon co-owns and runs Argot Wines with her husband and winemaker, Justin. The two met in 2011 working side by side at a harvest sorting table, and built the small Sonoma label together from the ground up — Beth helping shape every aspect of the business, from the cellar to the brand to the tasting experience. Argot focuses on cool-climate, single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alongside Sonoma Valley Cabernet, all made in small lots. Hers is the steady hand behind the scenes of a genuine first-generation winery built on partnership.
