Bedrock Wine Co. was founded in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson, son of Ravenswood founder Joel Peterson and a Master of Wine. The project's name comes from the Bedrock Vineyard, a century-old planting on the historic Sonoma Valley farm originally established by General William Tecumseh Sherman and General Joseph Hooker before the Civil War. The Petersons acquired the vineyard in 2005 and have since dedicated themselves to preserving and rehabilitating old vines across California. Bedrock's portfolio is built around heritage field blends, single-vineyard Zinfandel, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a particular focus on vineyards planted before 1900.

The Sonoma Plaza tasting room occupies the 1854 home of General Joseph Hooker, the same Hooker who founded the Bedrock Vineyard before the war. When the building came up for lease in 2017, Twain-Peterson took it, reuniting the historic house with the wines from its original vineyard. Tastings are intimate (the house has very limited room for groups larger than four), focused on the history of Sonoma Valley old vines, and structured to show breadth across the portfolio. In 2025, Bedrock Vineyard achieved Regenerative Organic Certification, placing the project among a small group of leaders in progressive California farming. The wines have appeared three times on Wine Spectator's Top 100, earned multiple 90+ scores from major critics, and earned the winery a deserved reputation as a torchbearer for the "New California" movement. Visits are by appointment: the Bedrock Heritage Tasting is $45, and the Under the Wire Tasting, offered Friday to Sunday, is $65, each waived with a three-bottle purchase.
