Promoted to Head Winemaker at Bricoleur in November 2025 following Cary Gott's October 2025 retirement after 55 vintages. Pierson grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area with an early interest in agriculture and science. He was approached by winemaker Cary Gott and the Hanson family in 2018 to join Bricoleur, recognizing wine as the intersection of his passions for agriculture, science, and culinary culture. He spent his first seven vintages at the winery learning under Gott (the “King of California Zinfandel,” with 55 vintages) and Bob Cabral (Williams Selyem alumnus, Wine Enthusiast's 2011 Winemaker of the Year, maker of the first 100-point North American Pinot Noir). Working at Punchdown Cellars in Santa Rosa where Bricoleur produced its first seven vintages, he absorbed both Gott's traditional Zinfandel sensibility and Cabral's Pinot Noir precision. Now leading the cellar across two estate properties totaling 63 acres in the Russian River Valley and Fountaingrove District, Pierson oversees 12 different grape varieties under an organic and increasingly regenerative farming program. Cabral remains as co-winemaker and continues to collaborate on the Pinot Noir program. Bricoleur's 2021 Estate Grown Special Selection Pinot Noir scored 94 points from Wine Enthusiast; the 2025 Sunset International Wine Competition awarded the Kick Ranch Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon Best in Class.
A second-generation wine industry veteran whose father worked at Foppiano Winery in Healdsburg, Cabral earned his BS in Fermentation Science from Fresno State in 1985 and spent the next decade working at Foppiano, De Loach, Alderbrook, and Hartford Court before being hired in 1998 as Director of Winemaking at Williams Selyem — the iconic small-production Russian River Valley label. He led Williams Selyem's program for 16 years through 2014, named Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Winemaker of the Year in 2011 for his single-vineyard Pinot Noir work. He joined the Hanson family at Bricoleur shortly after its 2017 founding. Since November 2025 he has been co-winemaker alongside newly-promoted Head Winemaker Tom Pierson, continuing his focus on small-lot single-vineyard expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Fountaingrove District and Russian River Valley estates.
