California's founding house of traditional method sparkling, founded in 1986 by Barcelona's Ferrer family — the name behind Freixenet. They chose Carneros because the fog-swept hills reminded them of Penedès. Four decades later, winemaker Kyle Altomare and the long Spanish-influenced terrace still set the appellation benchmark.

Founded in 1986 by the Ferrer family of Barcelona — the house behind Freixenet — Gloria Ferrer chose this fog-swept corner of Carneros because it reminded them of Penedès. Four decades later, the estate remains California's definitive expression of traditional method sparkling wine. Winemaker Kyle Altomare was named to the role in May 2024, succeeding longtime winemaker Bob Iantosca. The tasting experience is among the most civilized in Wine Country: Spanish-influenced architecture, a long terrace over the vineyards, and a food pairing program worth the drive.
Sonoma Brut NV
The estate's flagship.
Blanc de Noirs 2020
100% Pinot Noir, whole-cluster pressed and aged 24 months.
Carneros Cuvée NV
The richest and most complex in the lineup.
Estate Pinot Noir 2021
From low-yielding Carneros estate blocks.
Rosé of Pinot Noir NV
Salmon-colored, dry, and structured.
The estate itself is one of the most architecturally distinctive in the appellation — a Catalan-influenced Spanish hacienda overlooking Carneros vineyards, with a sweeping terrace that fills every afternoon with visitors enjoying food pairings and the signature Sonoma Brut. The tasting program is genuinely serious: the Culinary Journey pairs estate wines with seasonal small plates designed for sparkling, while the Immersive Tasting Journey opens up extended tirage library wines paired with cheese and caviar. Kyle Altomare's sparkling program draws on 335 estate acres of Carneros Pinot Noir and Chardonnay — among the largest estate-farmed sparkling wine programs in California.

Kyle Altomare was named Winemaker at Gloria Ferrer in May 2024, succeeding longtime winemaker Bob Iantosca. He arrived after a five-year tenure at Raventós Codorníu North America, where he served as Associate Winemaker for Artesa Vineyards and as winemaker for two of the portfolio's brands. Earlier roles include Enologist at Charles Krug and Cellar Master at Clos Pegase.--

A Northern California native and longtime heart of Gloria Ferrer hospitality, Schafer has shaped the estate's tasting experience for over a decade. Under her watch, the food pairing program and terrace service set a benchmark for sparkling wine hospitality.
