Jordan is the defining Bordeaux-style estate of Alexander Valley — a winery built in 1972 in the image of a French château, farming 1,200 acres in the warm Sonoma hills north of Healdsburg. The Cabernet Sauvignon is a California classic: structured, food-friendly, and built for the table rather than the trophy shelf. The Chardonnay, sourced from cooler Russian River sites, is equally well-made. Jordan's commitment to hospitality — from the estate dinners to the overnight stays — sets a standard for Sonoma luxury that few can match.

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon — Jordan's flagship and one of only two wines the estate makes: a Bordeaux-styled Cabernet built for balance and silky tannins rather than power, with smaller amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec in the blend.

Russian River Valley Chardonnay — A Burgundian-leaning white from cool benchland grower sites, aged exclusively in French oak, with crisp orchard fruit, vibrant acidity and a succulent finish.

Founded in 1972 by Tom and Sally Jordan and now run by their son John, Jordan is one of the rare wineries that makes just these two wines, modeled on red Bordeaux and white Burgundy. Maggie Kruse is winemaker, succeeding Rob Davis, who made every vintage from 1976 until 2019. The French-château winery sits on a 1,200-acre Alexander Valley estate.

Tom and Sally Jordan founded the estate in 1972 with an explicit homage to the great châteaux of Bordeaux, and their son John Jordan continues that project today. The property covers 1,200 acres, but only a quarter is under vine — the rest is left as habitat, rolling grassland and oak woodland that frames the chateau itself. There is no standing tasting room in the conventional sense. Every visit is booked in advance and built around the kitchen: a seated pairing of Jordan Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon with seasonal bites prepared by the estate's culinary team, offered either in the cellar room or outdoors overlooking the lake. The Estate Tour adds a private drive across the property to the hillside vineyards. Reservations must be made at least four hours ahead because the culinary prep begins well before guests arrive.

Winemaker

Maggie Kruse is the winemaker at Jordan Vineyard & Winery, the independently owned Alexander Valley estate founded by Tom and Sally Jordan in 1972 and now led by their son John Jordan. Kruse joined Jordan as a harvest intern in 2005 and spent more than a decade learning under founding winemaker Rob Davis — a protégé of the legendary André Tchelistcheff — before succeeding him as just the second winemaker in Jordan's history in 2019, when Davis retired as Winemaker Emeritus after forty vintages. She upholds Jordan's deliberately restrained, French-inspired house style across its two wines: an Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a Russian River Valley Chardonnay.

John Jordan
CEO & Proprietor

John Jordan was born on May 25, 1972 — the very day his parents signed the deed on their first Alexander Valley vineyard land. Tom and Sally Jordan founded the winery that year with a singular vision: a Bordeaux-inspired estate making approachable yet age-worthy Cabernet, served with French-style hospitality from a grand chateau. John grew up alongside the winery and took full ownership in 2007, serving as hands-on CEO. Under his direction, Jordan remains independently owned and famously makes just two wines — an Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a Russian River Valley Chardonnay.
