The Larson family arrived on this stretch of Sonoma Creek in 1899, working it first as a dairy and then, beginning in 1928, as the home of the largest rodeo in Northern California. The rodeo ran until the 1950s; the first vines were planted in 1977, and the family bottled their first wine in 1985. Today five generations have lived and worked the property: Tom Larson runs the operation as winemaster and CEO, with his children Becky, Erica, Hayden, Wyatt, and Will involved across vineyard, cellar, hospitality, and bottling.

The family farms its sustainably and organically managed estate vineyards in the heart of Sonoma Valley's Carneros corner. Production sits at around 5,000 cases annually, sold almost exclusively through the tasting room and wine club. Shane Anderson, who returned to Larson in 2022 after a stint at Benziger, oversees winemaking. The visit is famously casual: bocce courts, three farm Labs (Rosko, Louie, and Gus, the namesakes of the Three Lab Cab), and the relaxed country posture that gave the place its reputation.
