Ted Lemon studied in Burgundy at Domaine Guy Roulot and returned in 1993 to make Pinot and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast with Côte d'Or rigor. He founded Littorai, Latin for 'of the shore,' and became the voice of West Sonoma Coast wine. The Sebastopol estate is a biodynamic farm.

Ted Lemon studied in Burgundy, worked at Domaine Guy Roulot, and returned to California in 1993 with a vision: to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the extreme Sonoma Coast with the same rigor and restraint as the great domaines of the Côte d'Or. He founded Littorai — Latin for "of the shore" — and became the most important voice in establishing the philosophical and winemaking identity of West Sonoma Coast wine. Biodynamic farming, native yeast, whole-cluster fermentation, and a deep commitment to site specificity define every bottle.
The Haven Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast — From the estate Gold Ridge farm in Sebastopol; an elegant, savory expression of the home vineyard.
Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast — A single-vineyard bottling from one of the true Sonoma Coast's most celebrated sites, structured and ageworthy.
Savoy Vineyard Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley — From the well-regarded Savoy site in Mendocino, layered and perfumed.
Charles Heintz Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast — A taut, mineral Chardonnay from a renowned ridgetop vineyard.
B.A. Thieriot Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast — A single-vineyard Chardonnay of clarity and tension.
Founded in 1993 by Heidi and Ted Lemon — Ted was the first American to run a Burgundy estate — Littorai (Latin for 'coasts') makes single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley, farmed organically and biodynamically with native-yeast, minimal-intervention winemaking.
A visit to Littorai is unlike any other in Sonoma. Ted and Heidi Lemon farm 30 acres at the Gold Ridge Estate as a fully integrated biodynamic farm — sheep, cattle, chickens, ducks, compost teas, and a straw-bale winery completed in 2008 — modeled on Rudolf Steiner's vision of agricultural self-sufficiency. Tastings are by appointment only and strictly private: a seated guided tasting of single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley sites, hosted in the cellar or outdoors ($70 per person). A longer walking tour adds generative-farming context and a deeper look at compost preparations, water recycling, and the philosophy behind it all. Reservations are essential — email-confirmed with a door code sent after booking. Production is 8,000 cases, allocated across a mailing list and a handful of top restaurants.

Ted Lemon is the proprietor and winemaker of Littorai Wines, which he founded in 1993 with his wife Heidi to make site-expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the cool Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley. One of the most influential figures in California Pinot, Lemon earned his enology degree in Dijon and became the first American to run a Burgundy estate — Domaine Guy Roulot in Meursault — before consulting widely and launching his own label. Since buying the 30-acre Gold Ridge Estate near Sebastopol in 2003, he has farmed biodynamically with estate compost, cows, sheep, and chickens, pursuing an aesthetic of finesse and balance that earned him San Francisco Chronicle Winemaker of the Year in 2010.

Heidi Lemon co-founded Littorai in 1993 with her husband Ted, turning a shared dream into one of California’s most admired Pinot Noir and Chardonnay houses. Before Littorai she worked at estates including Domaine Chandon and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars; in 1992 she and Ted spent months traveling the West Coast in search of the finest cool-climate sites, settling on the true north coast of Sonoma and Mendocino. In 2003 the couple bought their 30-acre Gold Ridge Estate in Sebastopol, transforming it into a biodynamic “model farm” of vines, pasture, and animals that anchors Littorai’s philosophy.
