Founded in 1981 and owned by Pete and Terri Kight, Quivira takes its name from a mythical realm on early Spanish maps. Certified organic and biodynamic vineyards produce Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rhône varietals. Visitors wander the kitchen gardens, meet the chickens, and spot Mount St. Helena. Family- and dog-friendly.

Quivira is one of Dry Creek Valley's pioneering biodynamic estates — farming their 90-acre property since 1987 with a commitment to sustainability that predates the current movement by decades. Their Fig Tree Vineyard Zinfandel is a perennial standout, and the Sauvignon Blanc remains one of the most honest expressions of the variety in the appellation. The farm also produces olive oil, raises goats, and maintains native habitat — a genuine working agricultural ecosystem rather than a monoculture winery operation.
Fig Tree Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, Dry Creek Valley — Quivira's flagship white and a Wine Spectator Top 100 wine; crisp and mineral with grapefruit, pear and lemon, sourced from the estate's coldest, acid-preserving site.
Estate Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley — Hillside-grown on clay and gravelly loam, blending fresh red fruit with the spice that defines Dry Creek Zin.
Estate Grenache, Dry Creek Valley — From a pioneer of Rhône blending in the valley; juicy strawberry and pepper over silky, layered fruit.
Estate Syrah, Dry Creek Valley — Grown alongside Grenache and Mourvèdre at Wine Creek Ranch, dark and savory with garrigue complexity.
Petite Sirah, Dry Creek Valley — Deeply pigmented and structured, a robust counterpoint to the estate's brighter reds.
Founded in 1981 and owned by Pete and Terri Kight since 2006, Quivira farms its 59-acre Wine Creek Ranch organically with continued biodynamic practices, under winemaker Hugh Chappelle.
Founded in 1981 and now owned by Pete and Terri Kight, Quivira takes its name from a mythical realm on early Spanish maps of North America. The estate farms certified organic and biodynamic vineyards producing Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, and other Rhône varietals — all estate-bottled. The property itself is the attraction: visitors are encouraged to wander the organic kitchen gardens, meet the chickens, and take in views of Mount St. Helena. The Classic Tasting, Reserve Tasting under the olive trees, and Redwood Grove Picnic are the main experiences. Family- and dog-friendly, with a low-key hospitality culture that's easy to linger in.

Hugh Chappelle has been winemaker at Quivira Vineyards & Winery since 2010, leading the certified-organic Dry Creek Valley estate owned by Pete and Terri Kight. A UC Davis–trained winemaker who earlier ran the cellars at the Sonoma Coast's Flowers and Russian River's Lynmar Estate, Chappelle pairs warm- and cool-climate experience to craft Quivira's Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rhône varieties in a balanced, low-input style of high acidity and moderate alcohol. Working closely with vineyard manager Ned Horton, he farms a biodiverse property known for its solar power, composting, heritage gardens, and salmon- and steelhead-habitat restoration in Wine Creek.

Pete and Terri Kight have owned Quivira since 2006, when they bought the winery from founders Henry and Holly Wendt after just two meetings and a handshake. Pete, who built the pioneering online bill-pay company CheckFree, was captivated by the estate’s setting at the confluence of Wine Creek and Dry Creek and by the Wendts’ early commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. The Kights deepened that legacy — restoring Wine Creek for spawning salmon, tending a 140-year-old fig tree, and keeping goats and gardens among the vines — while elevating the Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rhône wines.
