William S. Price III — known as "Billy Three Sticks" to his surfing buddies for the Roman numerals after his name — became enamored of Durell Vineyard's Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as a collector, then purchased the legendary Sonoma Valley site from Ed Durell in 1998. The Three Sticks label launched in 2002 with founding winemaker Don Van Staaveren, focused on small-lot, vineyard-designated wines from Sonoma's grand-cru level sites. Price's portfolio has grown to include six estate vineyards — the three Heritage sites Durell, Gap's Crown, and Walala, plus the three Monopole sites One Sky on Sonoma Mountain, Alana, and William James.

Durell Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast — From the rocky volcanic site that is the birthplace of Three Sticks.

Gap's Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast — One of the Sonoma Coast's most iconic sites; rich and structured.

Durell Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast — A benchmark expression from proprietor Bill Price's heritage vineyard.

Walala Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast — From the northwesternmost of the estate's heritage vineyards, crafted by winemaker Ryan Prichard.

Price Family Vineyards Pinot Noir — A multi-site estate blend drawing on the Monopole vineyards Alana, One Sky, and William James.

In 2012 Bill and Eva Price purchased the 1842 Vallejo-Casteneda Adobe — the oldest continuously inhabited structure in Sonoma — and spent two years restoring it with designer Ken Fulk into a private tasting room steps from Sonoma Plaza. The Adobe opened to guests in 2014. In 2015, Bob Cabral (formerly of Williams Selyem) joined as Director of Winemaking, with Ryan Prichard as Winemaker; Don Van Staaveren remains as Winemaker Emeritus focused on Cabernet. Tastings at The Adobe are by appointment, featuring guided flights through the single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinots that span the appellation, from Petaluma Gap to Sonoma Coast.

Ryan Prichard
Director of Winemaking

Ryan Prichard joined Three Sticks in 2015, was named winemaker in 2017, and became Director of Winemaking in 2023, succeeding his longtime mentor Bob Cabral. A Northern California native, his interest in wine was sparked by a wine-appreciation course at Cornell University; he later earned a winemaking certificate from UC Davis while working as a technology consultant in Colorado before committing to wine full-time. Over nearly two decades he worked alongside acclaimed winemakers at Williams Selyem, Copain Custom Crush, and Medlock Ames before settling at Three Sticks. He crafts estate-only Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Price family's celebrated Sonoma vineyards, including Durell and Gap's Crown. He was named LuxeSF's Rising Wine Star Winemaker of the Year in 2020 and one of Wine Enthusiast's 'Maestros of Chardonnay' in 2022.
