Three Sticks Wines

William S. Price III (known as "Billy Three Sticks" to his surfing buddies for the Roman numerals after his name) became enamored of Durell Vineyard's Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as a collector, then purchased the legendary site, which spans the Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Carneros appellations, from Ed Durell. The Three Sticks label launched in 2002, focused on small-lot, vineyard-designated wines from Sonoma's grand-cru level sites, and Don Van Staaveren joined as winemaker in 2004. Price's portfolio has grown to include six estate vineyards: the three Heritage sites Durell, Gap's Crown, and Walala, plus the three Monopole sites One Sky on Sonoma Mountain, Alana, and William James.

In 2012 Bill and Eva Price purchased the 1842 Vallejo-Casteñada Adobe, the oldest continuously inhabited structure in Sonoma, and spent two years restoring it with designer Ken Fulk into a private tasting room steps from Sonoma Plaza. The Adobe opened to guests in 2014. In 2015, Bob Cabral (formerly of Williams Selyem) joined as Director of Winemaking, and Don Van Staaveren stayed on as Winemaker Emeritus focused on Cabernet. Ryan Prichard, who joined in 2015, succeeded Cabral as Director of Winemaking in February 2023. Tastings at The Adobe are by reservation only, daily, with the last reservation at 4 PM, for parties of up to six guests aged 21 and over. Taste of Three Sticks ($85, complimentary for members) is the introduction; A Sense of Place: Durell Vineyard ($95), the Collectors Tasting ($115), The Adobe Table ($125), and the Storehouse Luncheon with a three-course lunch from El Dorado Kitchen ($250) go deeper into the single-vineyard Chardonnays and Pinots that span the appellation, from Petaluma Gap to Sonoma Coast. On the Sonoma wine walk, the Adobe is the stop just off the Plaza.
