Twomey Cellars was founded in 1999 by Daniel Baker Duncan, son of Silver Oak founder Raymond Duncan, with a vision to make wines beyond Cabernet Sauvignon that reflected the family's hands-on approach to winemaking. The name comes from the Duncan family lineage — "Twomey" is the maiden name of Daniel's great-grandmother. Initial production focused on Merlot from Napa Valley using the soutirage traditionnel method — the labor-intensive barrel-to-barrel racking technique used in Bordeaux's most ambitious estates. The portfolio expanded in the 2000s to include Pinot Noir from Russian River, Anderson Valley, and the Willamette Valley, plus a New Zealand-influenced Sauvignon Blanc.

Twomey now operates two Sonoma tasting rooms — the Calistoga estate (the historic Soda Canyon location) and the Healdsburg Westside Road property, a 109-acre estate above the Russian River. The Westside Road winery sits on a Pinot Noir-focused property with vineyard views toward the Middle Reach corridor. Winemaker Nate Weis leads the broader Twomey and Silver Oak program from the family's Sonoma and Napa operations. The Russian River tasting experience focuses on the Pinot Noir lineup — single-vineyard bottlings from Bien Nacido, Anderson Valley, and the estate — alongside Sauvignon Blanc and a small Chardonnay program. Seated tastings include vineyard tours, terrace views over the Westside Road benches, and library access to current and recent Pinot Noir vintages.
Ryan Hodgins was named Director of Winemaking at Twomey in early 2026, bringing more than two decades of work with cool-climate California sites. He built his reputation at FEL Wines, earning acclaim for elegant, terroir-focused Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Anderson Valley and the Sonoma Coast, and held earlier roles at Hanzell Vineyards and Acacia. Known for a vineyard-first mindset and precision with Pinot Noir, he leads Twomey's winemaking from harvest through blending and bottling, working closely with the growers and viticulture team behind the Duncan family's collection of cool-climate sites stretching from California's Central Coast to Oregon's Willamette Valley. His attentiveness to individual sites suits Twomey's pursuit of wines with finesse.
