Native Sonoman Ty Caton farms 40 acres of hillside vines within a 108-acre Moon Mountain property, the rest preserved as habitat. Founded in 2000, his Cabernet Collection produces seven single-block bottlings from distinct micro-sites, each shaped by its own soil, sun, elevation, and clone, volcanic bedrock often just inches below.

Ty Caton is a native Sonoman who farms old-vine Zinfandel and volcanic hillside Cabernet on Moon Mountain, making wine with a directness and honesty that reflects someone deeply rooted in the place. His Titanium blend — a Cabernet-dominant assemblage from his highest elevation blocks — is one of the most sought-after wines on the mountain. Caton is both owner and winemaker, giving the wines an uncommonly consistent vision. He also grows Syrah at elevation that has become a benchmark for the AVA.

Tytanium, Moon Mountain District — The flagship proprietary red blend of the estate's six Bordeaux and Rhône varieties; deeply concentrated yet finessed.

Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Moon Mountain District — Block-designate, exclusively estate-grown Cabernet from volcanic hillside soils.

Caton Vineyard Syrah, Moon Mountain District — A burly, dark-fruited estate Syrah.

Estate Merlot, Moon Mountain District — A rich, structured hillside Merlot.

Chardonnay — A bright estate-grown white rounding out the lineup, alongside Sauvignon Blanc and the enTycement red blend.

Founded in 1997 by Ty Caton, Ty Caton Vineyards is one of the few exclusively estate producers in the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma Valley, farming the hillside Caton Vineyard on volcanic soils. The flagship Tytanium and block-designate Cabernets anchor a bold, estate-grown range.

Ty Caton is one of the few exclusively estate producers in the Moon Mountain District, farming 40 acres of steep hillside vines within a 108-acre property — the rest preserved as wild habitat. Founded in 2000, the estate produces the Caton Cabernet Collection: seven single-block Cabernet Sauvignons from distinct micro-sites within the vineyard, each shaped by its own soil depth, sun exposure, elevation, and clone. The volcanic bedrock is often just 12–18 inches below topsoil. Beyond Cabernet, the estate also grows Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Malbec — the blend behind the flagship "Tytanium" bottling. The Kenwood tasting room is comfortable and unpretentious (classic tasting flight or a reserve Cabernet Sauvignon flight). Private barrel tastings available at the Sonoma Urban Winery by appointment (daily 11am / 1pm / 3pm).

Founder & Winemaker

Ty Caton is the founder and winemaker of Ty Caton Vineyards, an estate producer high in the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma Valley. A second-generation Sonoma local with no winemaking background, he began clearing his family's rugged 108-acre Mayacamas property by bulldozer in 1997, brought in the first harvest around 2003, and taught himself the craft vintage by vintage. Today he farms roughly 40 hillside acres of vines on rocky volcanic soils beside the famed Monte Rosso Vineyard, crafting Cabernet-driven wines — including the seven single-block bottlings of the Caton Cabernet Collection and his proprietary Tytanium blend — with a soil-to-glass, estate-only approach.

Sandy & Brooke Caton
Founding Family

Sandy and Brooke Caton are the parents at the root of Ty Caton Vineyards. In 1981 they bought the rugged 108-acre Moon Mountain property — a one-time 1920s ‘ghost’ winery and later a Boys & Girls Club summer camp — and in 1997 their son Ty returned home to develop it alongside them, founding the estate that bears his name. Brooke planted the small SandyBrooke vineyard in 2006, named for the couple; Sandy remains a familiar, welcoming presence in the tasting room, sharing wine and stories with guests. The Caton Cabernet Collection labels pay tribute to the property’s long history.
