Fulcrum is the Pinot-obsessed project of winemaker David Rossi, who founded it in 2005 by cold-calling California's top growers for a few rows of their best fruit. Years of earned trust later, his small-lot, vineyard-designated Pinots draw from grand cru-caliber sites: Gap's Crown, Brosseau, Walala, Wildcat Mountain. The casual-elegant room sits in the Sonoma Court Shops, just off the Plaza.
A tasting runs $35 for five wines, waived with a two-bottle purchase: a guided comparison of how each prized site expresses itself, with sister label Cloisonné in the mix. Rossi is often on hand; call ahead and he may pour for you himself. Dog-friendly, and reservations are encouraged.
Founder & Winemaker
David Rossi taught himself to make wine in his New Jersey basement in the early 1990s, turning out as many as forty small lots a year from Washington, Argentine and California grapes. He founded Fulcrum in 2005 to focus on California Pinot Noir and still makes every vineyard and cellar decision himself, from choosing the rows to bottling.
