La Dolce Vita is the kind of place that feels like a friend's living room: couches, long tables, and classic black-and-white films flickering above the bar. Sahar Gharai opened it in Petaluma's Theater District in 2007 and still runs it as a family affair, pouring as the lounge's resident sommelier with her mother's soups simmering in the kitchen.
The focus is boutique wineries, local and worldwide: 40+ wines available by the glass, half-carafe, or bottle, plus flights of three for around $17–29, all available to take home. Pair them with gourmet appetizers, house-made hummus, and that famous bacon-pear-goat cheese pizza. Happy hour runs weekday afternoons, with free live music on summer Sundays.
Founder & Sommelier
Sahar Gharai grew up in Petaluma and studied molecular biology at UC Berkeley with plans to become a pediatrician, until a wine program in Florence changed her course. She opened La Dolce Vita in 2007 and still buys the wine and pours as its sommelier, with a soft spot for Italian bottles and her mother's soups simmering in the kitchen.
