Mercury is the "mad scientist workshop" of winemaker Brad Beard — an Arizona native and former Navy pilot who found a warm welcome (and his husband) in Geyserville and named the label for the quicksilver mines that once ringed the Alexander Valley. His brother Grady often leads tastings; black lab Freddie Mercury greets at the door.

Tasting Highlights

Mad-Scientist Flight — Bordeaux-, Rioja-, and Rhône-style blends plus offbeat small lots — Tempranillo, Mourvèdre, and uncommon whites like Sauvignon Musqué.

Expect the unexpected: tiny lots of Bordeaux, Rioja, and Rhône-style blends, Tempranillo and Mourvèdre, esoteric whites like Sauvignon Musqué, even a sparkling Petite Sirah and an orange wine — sourced from Alexander Valley and Dry Creek. The funky downtown room opens to a sprawling back garden it shares with Ramazzotti. Walk-ins welcome; $25, waived with two bottles.
