Portalupi is the "Cal-Ital" love story of Jane Portalupi and Tim Borges, childhood acquaintances who reunited as adults, married, and founded the winery in 2002, opening their Healdsburg room in 2011. Tim brings 40+ years of winemaking; Jane, a Nordstrom and Eddie Bauer retail background and her family's Piemontese roots.
The signature is Vaso di Marina: wine in a milk jug, honoring Jane's grandmother Marina, who bottled hers that way at her San Jose grocery (return the jug for a refill discount). Taste it alongside Zinfandel, Barbera and sparkling Barbera, Charbono, Arneis, and Vermentino in a sleek, warehouse-chic room with a candlelit private space. Open daily.

Ryan Kunde was born in Sonoma into a fifth-generation winegrowing family. After a business degree and wine sales for Gallo, he earned his viticulture and enology degree at UC Davis in 2011 and co-founded DRNK Wines in Sebastopol with his wife, Katie. Taking on Portalupi feels like coming full circle: its first vintage was made in what is now the DRNK cave.

Katie Kunde co-founded DRNK Wines in Sebastopol with her husband, Ryan, and together they took the reins at Portalupi when founders Tim Borges and Jane Portalupi passed the torch. The couple carries on the winery's Cal-Ital spirit, its modo di vivere, in the Healdsburg room on North Street, from Italian varieties to the much-loved wine in a milk bottle.
