Healdsburg's oldest downtown tasting room sits half a block off the Plaza in a quaint converted house. Susie Selby founded the winery in 1994 with her father, David; when he died in 1997 she carried it alone. For years she deflected distributor pressure by invoking a tough general manager named Bob, who was, in fact, her cat. It remains 100% owned and operated by Susie.
Selby wines have poured at the White House across four administrations, Democrat and Republican, since 1995, yet the room itself stays unpretentious, with a patio and a warm welcome. Expect single-vineyard and reserve bottlings made only for the tasting room: the Bobcat Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, rosé, and sparkling. Tastings run about $15. Walk-ins welcome.
