Just tell your host you're there for Sonoma Sips. The program now spills into the dining room too, with valley winemakers pouring alongside kitchens like Swiss Hotel and Sonoma Grille, and a capstone Winemaker's Pour in mid-March.

Pick a participating winery, tasting room or restaurant from the roster on the official site — no pass to buy or badge to print. Turn up, mention you're there for Sonoma Sips, and the fee is a flat fifteen dollars per person for the tasting. Reservations aren't required at most spots, but calling ahead is smart on weekends and for the restaurant pours. Bottle purchases and club sign-ups are warmly encouraged.

The beauty of it is how low-key it stays. Most stops take walk-ins, so you can string together a slow afternoon of three or four rooms without a single reservation — though a call ahead never hurts on a weekend. This is the season to wander past the marquee names into the small family cellars and side-street tasting bars you'd normally drive right by, when hosts have time to actually talk and the flat fee makes trying somewhere unfamiliar feel like no gamble at all. Fall for a bottle and you take it home; find your people and you can join the club on the spot. Come for the value, stay for the winter-quiet valley.
