The Press Democrat's one-day grand tasting at Santa Rosa's Luther Burbank Center, built on a clever conceit: nearly a hundred gold-medal winners from the North Coast Wine Challenge poured alongside dishes from twenty-odd Wine Country chefs, with live music to keep it moving. It's an easy, all-under-one-roof sampler of the wider region — and a benefit for Sonoma Family Meal, the chef-and-farmer network that feeds neighbors through hard times.

Tickets are timed to a single afternoon session, typically sold in general admission and an earlier-entry VIP tier that buys you a head start before the room fills. Your admission covers the tasting itself — you move at your own pace among the winning wineries, pouring as you go, and graze the chef stations along the way; wines are available to buy by the bottle. Come hungry, pace the pours, and plan a ride home.

The appeal here is the shortcut. Rather than driving valley to valley chasing tasting rooms, you get the North Coast's best-scored bottles assembled in one hall, with chefs plating small bites at stations between the pours — a low-stakes way to triangulate what you actually like across Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, and Lake before you commit a weekend to any of them. The Luther Burbank Center setting keeps things civil and unhurried: room to sit, a stage for music, and enough space that the crowd never feels like a scrum. It reads less as a bacchanal than as a friendly survey course.
